Cashmere Mafia - a desperate and sad Sex and the City imitation

The clothes on Lucy Liu are so hideously tacky. If she's aiming to be the Carey Bradshaw of this new gang of four, their wardrobe designer really needs to be replace. But don't get me wrong, I love Lucy Liu, and I think she has pretty good personal style. But what they put her in on the show more often than not swallows her in whole. Big clothes plus big hair ... yikes. It's not flattering on a tiny Asian girl.

I'm not feeling the other characters as of yet, and the only other girl whose clothes stood out was the red head divorce. I've still yet to figure out what she does ... something important no doubt. So Lucy's supposed to be in publishing, and the red head holds the title of CEO to what I don't know. The brunette is experiencing a rocky but perhaps salvageable marriage, as her high flying career in International biz/finance is taking her places thus leaving her no time for hubby or kids. Oh and of course there's a blond. How nice. They covered the whole hair color spectrum. Oh but wait they're covering the sexual preference spectrum as well for the blond is in a relationship with a black girl who is pregnant by IV just as the blond decides to go on a one-night stand with a good guy friend of hers. If her character seems a bit hollow (which the actress makes no effort of defending), it's probably because the chances of something like that happening in real life is one in a Google! Oh and did I mention that the black girlfriend was extremely extremely understanding to the blond's infidelity because the blond is bi so it's OK ... and all these words of understanding poured out of her while she was in her very pregnant state of mind!

Ok, I suppose in the absence of S&C, I will settle for a lesser or even grotesque imitation of S&C. Maybe the fashion will get better if the script won't. But with these expensive actresses and S&C having paving the way to prove that TV sells fashion, I can't imagine that they'd have a hard time borrowing wardrobes as S&C did in its early days. Plus their clothes look totally expensive, but hey anybody can look expensive, but expensive in good taste is all together a different story. I think if the show were to survive, they need to step up in the style department. Part of S&C's success was due to Patricia Field's brilliance. Expensive does not equate to Stylish just as Rich does not have to mean Tacky. I hope the show will get it right soon in the style department. As to the tacky and incredible plot lines ... sigh I hope they were written back in the days of writer strike by some high school interns filling for the seasoned writers. I'm hoping for better days.
